Securing planning permission for a landmark care-led development in Corstorphine.
Northcare Scotland appointed Orbit Communications to deliver community and stakeholder engagement for proposals to redevelop a prominent brownfield site at the corner of St John’s Road and Manse Road in Corstorphine.
The plans sought planning permission for a high-quality mixed-use development comprising a 60-bed care home, five assisted living apartments and ground-floor commercial units, transforming the long-vacant former Woolworths site within the Corstorphine Conservation Area into a development that addresses Edinburgh’s growing need for specialist care accommodation.
Our Approach
- Developed and delivered a tailored communications and stakeholder engagement strategy.
- Engaged proactively with local councillors, MSPs, community representatives and Corstorphine Community Council to build understanding of the proposals and address key issues.
- Designed and managed a dedicated consultation website, providing easy access to plans, supporting information and online feedback.
- Organised and promoted a non-statutory public consultation event, giving residents and businesses an early opportunity to engage with the proposals.
- Analysed consultation feedback and worked with the wider consultant team to help refine the planning submission.
Outputs & Outcomes
- Successfully engaged local residents, businesses, elected representatives and community stakeholders ahead of the planning application.
- Built constructive relationships with key stakeholders, helping to demonstrate transparent and meaningful community engagement throughout the planning process.
- Planning permission granted for the mixed-use development, delivering a landmark care-led regeneration project within the Conservation Area.
