The renewable energy company considering plans for a wind farm in Upper Nithsdale held a well-attended public information session to introduce the company, prior to the beginning of a formal planning application for their Rowancraig Wind Farm project south of Sanquhar.
More than 35 local people attended and spoke to Nick Forest and Alan Mathewson from Koehler Renewable Energy in the Nithsdale Hotel on Tuesday (22nd November), discussing the company’s work across Europe and gathering opinions on how a community benefit associated with the wind farm could help local people.

Koehler Renewable Energy differs from other renewable energy companies as they’re a family-run business. Accordingly, the company’s principles revolve around the local community and offering early and regular discussions as plans progress.
The Rowancraig Wind Farm would be located approximately 2.4 miles West of Sanquhar, with early studies suggesting seven turbines with a maximum tip height of 180m, although the company emphasise that plans are still at a very early stage and open to change.
Koehler is awaiting feedback on their Scoping Request from Dumfries & Galloway Council but hopes to hold Statutory consultation sessions in the Spring and Summer of 2023 prior to the formal submission of a planning application.
Nick Forrest, Senior Project Developer for Koehler Renewable Energy UK, said:
“It was fantastic to see so many people attend our Information Session to learn more about Koehler Renewable Energy and give them an opportunity to ask early questions about our plans for the Rowancraig Wind Farm and how it could benefit the local area
“We are so grateful to the residents of Sanquhar for welcoming the team with such positivity, and we look forward to progressing this application in 2023. There will be more opportunities to discuss these plans when we are further down the road, but, in the meantime, I would urge any residents with questions or suggestions to get in touch via our website.”
