Tighean Innse Gall (TIG), has marked its 35th anniversary by project managing £26.7 million worth of housing and community development works on behalf of clients, installing more than £442,000 worth of home adaptations and providing support to over 1,000 households facing fuel poverty.
The figures, revealed in TIG’s Annual Report for 2025/26 and a 35th anniversary film, were shared at a packed Annual General Meeting on the 17th of September. Staff, partners and committee members gathered to look back on a year of community impact and look ahead to what’s next.
TIG’s housing and community development service managed 22 projects across the Western Isles with a total value of £26.7 million. The organisation also oversaw four feasibility studies to support future affordable housing.
TIG, working for client Hebridean Housing Partnership (HHP) and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Housing Service, saw the second phase of housing developments completed at An Allt Dubh, Newmarket, and Lèana an t-Struith, Leverburgh.
The Care & Repair Service installed over £442,000 worth of major adaptations and completed 223 minor adaptations, including rails, steps, and temporary ramps, which help older and disabled residents live in safe, suitable accommodation and remain independent at home.
One client, Mrs Cowsill, who faces significant mobility challenges, said:
“I just wanted to say how much the ramp and changing the door has changed my life. I have my independence back, which is the most precious thing.”
The Energy Advice Service (TEAS) team supported 1,026 households by providing energy advice and assistance to those who need it most. TIG provided 1,119 emergency energy vouchers to 373 households experiencing fuel poverty, and 198 households received practical energy measures.
TEAS, working alongside Citizens Advice Bureau, Community Energy Scotland, AliEnergy and Smart Energy GB, also helped many navigate the Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS), supporting households in the Western Isles still using RTS meters.
Chairperson of Tighean Innse Gall, Ian McCulloch, said:
“As we celebrate our 35th Annual General Meeting, our annual report acts as a reflection on the hard work and commitment TIG has shown to our communities in the Western Isles. Whether it’s through supporting households in fuel poverty, enabling people to remain independent in their own homes, or bringing forward community-led affordable housing developments, TIG continues to find practical solutions to the real issues many islanders face.”
Chief Executive Donna Smith added:
“2025/2026 has been another successful year for Tighean Innse Gall. Our teams in energy advice, care & repair, and housing and community development have all helped improve lives and strengthen communities across our islands.”
