Why Natalia is celebrating International Women’s Day 2020
If you’re hoping for some Mad Men-esque success story where I rose from typist to Creative Director in an oppressive male-dominated industry, you’re not in for a treat. The truth is, so far, in my recently birthed career, I’ve never felt mistreated in the workplace nor faced blatantly different struggles because of my gender. I’m not naïve and expect to encounter some sour reality checks further down the line.
But as for today, I’m celebrating IWD because of the positive progress I have witnessed. Ambitious women making their way up the career ladder at a fast pace, soon-to-be mothers able to balance their private and work life, product managers directing a large team of male developers without second-guessing their own ability…
There’s still a long way to go, but examples like these give me hope. Take the time today to appreciate where we’re at now and what we can do to improve the workplace in the future. Be it by offering equal parental leave or calling out a colleague for a sexist remark. Every little helps.
Happy International Women’s Day!
